The aim of funeducation is to provide resources written by practising
teachers to be used for the teaching of AS and A Level Chemistry with
Interactive Whiteboards.
During 2004-2005 it is supported by a Gatsby
Teacher Fellowship given to aid the development of resources. The
main milestones for this project together with aims and objectives are
stated below.
Aim – To develop resources for the effective teaching
of AS and A Level Chemistry with Interactive Whiteboards that are freely
available to all teachers. Resources will be developed using spreadsheets,
document files, slide shows and web pages.
Background
As a winner of a Salters’ Teachers
Prize in 2002 I was able to purchase an interactive whiteboard for the
Chemistry Department at Brighton
Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College. The development of resources for
effective use with the whiteboard has become a key priority since then.
Initial research which has shown that there is very little material available
for use in a sixth form context although a great deal of resources are
being developed for other key stages.
Objectives
To evaluate currently available resources for suitability and report the
findings of this evaluation in the form of a research paper in appropriate
journals.
To develop and fully evaluate a set of bespoke resources for core AS/A
Level Chemistry Topics to be used with an interactive whiteboard.
To write a website through which these resources can be shared instantly
with colleagues (To include resources and instructions for their adaptation).
To promote the resources through teachers conferences such as The Association
for Science Education, BETT etc.
At the end of the project to produce a CD containing a complete set of
resources to be made available through teachers conferences and from requests
via the website.
Success Criteria
A website in place detailing the project brief and with contact details
by December 2004.
A pilot collection of resources for AS Chemistry to be developed by February
2005.
A collection of resources for A2 Chemistry to be developed by July 2005.
CD’s of resources to be available for teachers from September 2005
through requests via the website and promotion at ASE conference etc.
